On December 12, 2016, at Dunedin Hospital, surrounded by family; in her 70th year.

Dearly loved wife, friend and soul-mate of Tony, loved mother and mother-in-law of Guy and Sheryl Alty (Wanaka), Amanda and Phil Jack (Christchurch), Nicholas Alty and Melissa Lockhart (Sunshine Coast, Australia), and Bradley and Trish Alty (Twizel), loved sister of Colleen Taylor (Christchurch), loved stepmother of Michele and Brett Dakers (Dunedin), Lee Harris and Andrew Beaumont (Fox River, Buller), Stephanie and Garry Price (Dunedin), Michael and Aki Harris (Minakami, Japan), and Sarah and Ioan Bramhall (Christchurch).

Proud and loving grandmother of Blake, and Roman Alty; Louis, and Petra Jack; Byron, and Angus Alty; and Madelynn, and Jaxon Alty,

and step-grandmother of James Dakers; Louise Harris, and Tamesi Harman; Alex, Rebecca, and Dominic Price; Sam, Mac, and Kaya Harris; and Rhiannon, and Maia Bramhall.

Val’s family are grateful for the excellent professional care of oncologists Drs Chris Jackson, and Dennis Tweedy; the friendly and supportive staff of the Day Oncology Unit, and the District Nursing Service; and the capable and caring nurses of Ward 8C, Dunedin Hospital. Val was also comforted in her final days by the spiritual support of Fr Mark Chamberlain.

A service for Val will be held in Holy Name Church, Great King Street, Dunedin at 2.00pm on Saturday December 17, followed by private cremation.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be left at the service.
