Dearly loved husband of Joyce (nee Aitken) for 74 years. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Joann and Ralph Gale (Adelaide), Eleanor and Lindsay Brown, and Bill and Barbara Kirk (Ashburton), loved Grandad of Dan, and Tom; Nicola, Michael, and Amanda (Bushie); Lisa, Richard, Lauren, Ashleigh, and their partners, and a loved Great-grandad. The family wish to thank the staff of Summerset at Bishopscourt and Ward 8 at Dunedin Hospital for their care of Melvell.

A service for Melvell will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, corner Andersons Bay Road and Oxford Street at 12.30pm on Saturday June 2, followed by private cremation.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Otago Community Hospice would be appreciated and may be left at the service.
