On December 28, 2007, suddenly but peacefully at Dunedin Hospital; aged 80 years.

Dearly loved husband of Virginia, loved and respected father and father-in-law of Stephen and Manasanan, Barbara and the late Mark Steptoe, William, James and Shirley, Richard and Nicki, loved grandad of Chloe, and Sam; Cameron, Hamish, and Rhiannon Steptoe; Alice, and William.

A service for John will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel corner Andersons Bay Road and Oxford Street at 2pm on Friday January 4, followed by private cremation.
