To Grandma & Granddad

JUST FOR FUN

Cold sticky Play dough green, purple or pink

Making boxes filled with all sorts of things

Yards of cold sticky tape & glue from the fridge it’s true

Baking Anzac biscuits, chocolate fudge, coconut ice and lemon slice

Dress up clothes and shoes that smell old but never mind I think I look just fine don’t you

Racing on a plastic trike down the path as fast a we can, then running to the top to do it all again

Playing in the tree house sawing and banging nails making our mansion for Grandma to bring us afternoon tea in, we think were very special

Playing with the china doll his name is Johnny but be very careful don’t break him he’s very old and worth lots of money

Watching out the windows with binoculars, look there’s a bus, fire engine and a plane landing on the runway then another takes off it feels really near

Stories read by granddad sitting on his knee listening so carefully it’s almost like you’re there, when he’s all done we ask for more but he’s asleep in the chair

Watching Grandma spinning wool to yarn then she gives us a turn
Brushing, pulling, pushing and pedaling

She’s knitting a jersey for granddad to wear while he sleeps in his rocking chair

Walks to the beach to playing in the rock pools and fishing off the wharf we never court much more than a Spotties for Sam cat’s dinner

Triple scooped chocolate dipped ice cream dripping down my arm lick it quick it’s melting in the sun

Walks to red rocks to see the smelly seals basking in the sun, along the way we bounce in the trees sometimes right up to our knees

Its time for lunch lets build a fire toast marshmallows, look out its on fire!

Trips to the zoo to see me and you, candy floss and toffee apples are a treat too

Off to the museum to see all the old treasures, Grandma tell us stories of days gone bye I gaze into the window and imagine I was there

Up the cable car its really quite bazaar we see the big city, gee it looks so pretty

Then to see Great Grandma Dot, she makes the best piklets in town with loads of butter & jam all washed down with cups of sweet tea

Sunday dinners with all the trimmings crunchy potatoes, burnt parsnip tails and golden syrup pud if you could

Playing in the bath for hours at a time making bubbles with the boat full of soap I try to make the biggest bubbles ever but I never

When the day is done I’m sinking in to bed the one with the hole that swallows you up nice and snug all night so as the bed bugs don’t bite

In the morning Granddads making boiled eggs with silly faces we drew for fun and toast soldiers, boy it’s really yum!

Now another day has began I wonder what we will do today

Just for fun me and you.

Love Lyn
