HARPER, Russell
notes to his family and friends: “I am just going outside and may be some time.”

Rus passed peacefully at home on Wednesday July 22, 2020; aged 73 years. He will be remembered as stoically independent, honest and funny. Rus will be missed as the man who could start many a conversation with his in-depth knowledge.

Rus was the soulmate and beloved of his wife Ngarie for forty years. He was the beloved son of Alan^ and Melva^ and shared a special bond with his step dad Arthur Waller^. He was first the father, and ultimately a friend, of Tristam. Rus was the loved brother and brother-in-law of Carrie^ and Graeme Morris^ and his brother in law Graeme and Jenny Purches, and Arty Purches. Loved uncle of Marise and Lisa, Nathan, Angela, Cameron and Aliesha, Darcy, Jolene and all their families. (^ denotes deceased)

We are grateful to Dr Peter Gent and the staff of St John Ambulance who were exemplary in their support. Dr Dave McKay, Keith and his team at Mornington Pharmacy, the Otago Community Hospice, the District Nurses, Oncology Nurses who gave exceptional care and compassion.

Ngarie and Tristam request that each of us celebrate Rus’s memory in their own way in their own time.

A private family cremation will be held in accordance with Rus’s wishes. There will be a celebration of Rus Harper’s life for family and friends at a later date.

Instead of flowers, please donate to St John Ambulance Service. Messages to 27 Lindsay Road, Caversham, Dunedin 9011 or on Rus’s page above.
