It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, Nan and Great Nan, who passed away peacefully on 16 February 2026, surrounded by her whanau at Lansdowne Court.

Loving and devoted wife of the late Owen Huia Topia and dearly loved mother and mother-in-law of Richard (dec), and Karen, Michael and Jill, Kerry and Sally, Joanna and Nick. Mere was a loving Nan to all her mokopuna and great mokopuna.

Dearly loved daughter of the late Hoani and Toi Walker. Dearly loved sister and sister-in-law of Ellen and Rev Charlie Rowland (both dec), Eileen and Turoa Kuru (both dec), Jim (dec) and Ann Walker, Hariata Tahana (dec), Rehu and Toby Hawea (both dec), Lucy and Michael Dunn (both dec), John and Kaye Walker (both dec), Toi (dec) and Cissie Walker, John (dec) and Rewa Walker, Reomoana Walker, Taff Walker (dec), Bishop Wai and Colin (dec) Quayle.

The whanau are extremely thankful to all the nurses, caregivers and staff at Lansdowne for not only their care of Mere but also the compassion and support to the whanau during her last days.

Mere will be lying in state at Te Rangimarie Marae, 131 Cole St, Masterton where her funeral service will be held on Wednesday 18th February 2026 at 11.00am followed by burial at Waipoapoa Urupa Gladstone.
