HICKLAND Robert
on July 15th 2008 at Christchurch Hospital following a Rugby accident.

Promising schoolboy rugby star Robert Hickland has died from severe neck injuries sustained while playing late last month.

Robert, 17, a New Zealand under-17 representative, was playing for Feilding High School's first 15 against Rathkeale College 1st 15 on June 28 when he broke his neck in a tackle.

He was flown to Christchurch's Burwood Hospital where he underwent operations and appeared to be improving before losing the fight to recover.

Feilding coach Rick Francis had earlier said Robert, touted as a future All Black, was a rare talent.

"He was among the best backs I've seen since I've been at the school and was one of the team's shining stars as far as having that X-factor goes."

Tributes and messages may be left in Robert's tribute book below.

Robert's funeral service will be held at Feilding High School, Churcher Street Feilding on Saturday July 19th 2008 at 11:00am followed by a private cremation.
